Revisiting the strong shock problem: Converging and diverging shocks in different geometries

چکیده
Self-similar solutions to converging (implosions) and diverging (explosions) shocks have been studied before, in planar, cylindrical, or spherical symmetry. Here, we offer a unified treatment of these apparently disconnected problems. We study the flow an ideal gas with adiabatic index ? initial density ? ? r ? ?, containing strong shock wave. characterize self-similar entirety parameter space , ? draw connections between different geometries. find that only type II are valid shocks, some cases, might not create reflected after its convergence. Finally, derive analytical approximations for similarity exponent space.

Shockwaves in Converging Geometries
Plate impact experiments are a powerful tool in equation of state (EOS) development, but are inherently limited by the range of impact velocities accessible to the gun. In an effort to dramatically increase the range of pressures which can be studied with available impact velocities, a new experimental technique is being developed. The possibility of using a confined converging target to focus ...
متن کاملConverging shocks in elastic-plastic solids.
We present an approximate description of the behavior of an elastic-plastic material processed by a cylindrically or spherically symmetric converging shock, following Whitham's shock dynamics theory. Originally applied with success to various gas dynamics problems, this theory is presently derived for solid media, in both elastic and plastic regimes. The exact solutions of the shock dynamics eq...
متن کاملDielectrophoretic choking phenomenon in a converging-diverging microchannel.
Experiments show that particles smaller than the throat size of converging-diverging microchannels can sometimes be trapped near the throat. This critical phenomenon is associated with the negative dc dielectrophoresis arising from nonuniform electric fields in the microchannels. A finite-element model, accounting for the particle-fluid-electric field interactions, is employed to investigate th...
متن کاملLaminar Fully Developed Flow in Periodically Converging-diverging Microtubes
Laminar fully developed ow and pressure drop in linearly varying cross -section converging-diverging microtubes have been is investigated in this work. These microtubes are formed from a series of converging-diverging modules. An analytical model is developed for frictional ow resistance assuming parabolic axial velocity pro le in diverging and converging sections. Frictional ow resistance is f...
